3C International – 2005 Golf Day, 18 August.

On a glorious hot summers day, 3C held their 1st ever corporate golf day at Donnington Valley Golf Club, with 16 players all enjoying the venue, the golf, the hospitality of the Donnington Valley team and hopefully the company of each other.

There were a few competitions to play for on the day, including individual stableford, team event, plus the Nearest the Pin & Longest Drive competitions.

The latter went to David Wills [Lloyds Cardnet] & Robert Philmore [Squirrel Systems] respectively, whilst the team prize for most combined points went to Rueben Gates [Barclaycard], Fergus Appleton [Central Parking Systems], Robert Philmore [Squirrel Systems] & Simon Marsden [3C]. The winning score was 90 points.

The individual event was won by Barry O’Sullivan [Fexco], who played to his 13 handicap, scoring a winning total of 36 points. Jim Jackman [Apcoa] scored 35 points for 2nd place, with Manny Rasores [Parking Consultancy], scoring 34 points for 3rd place.

A hugely enjoyable and a successful event that will now become an annual date in the 3C diary.

Thanks to all our partners & clients for joining us, and we look forward to seeing you all again at next years 3C Golf Day.

3C International held the 1st Annual Partner Conference on Friday 8th April 2005, Warren House, Kingston-Upon-Thames.

Delegates from all over the UK attended the 1 day 3C International Business Partner Seminar. The event provided an opportunity for existing and potential new partners to see the new range of solutions and services from 3C International as well as catch up on industry news and networking.

Key note speeches from Pekka Mittila, Head of Visa’s EMEA Chip & PIN implementation programme, Mark Roberts from Dione, Connie Penn, Kilrush Consultancy and Ramesh Juneja, 1st Currency Choice.

The hot topic was clearly Chip & PIN in the hospitality environment and how the implementation will effect daily operation as well as compliance with scheme rules. The message from Visa was clear, invest in development and deployment of the infrastructure or become liable for card fraud. Fraud Hospitality in hospitality has been historically low in previous years compared to the retail sector although the fraud will migrate to the hospitality sector in time.

3C International unveiled their new Chip & PIN solution, detailing the new architecture and the process flow of how the solution will work with POS systems and Pin Entry Devices. Dione provided a colourful demonstration of how their Xplorer portable device will work in a LIVE environment.

Connie Penn gave an insight into deploying Chip & PIN in the hospitality industry, what specific issues still remain and the different PED’s that are available for merchants in different environments. From pubs to restaurants and hotel front desks, there are a number of terminals to suit all specific needs in hospitality. The PMO and EMV have been slow in providing real information about Chip & PIN in the hospitality industry and as such has been left behind the retail sector in deploying the solution because of the complex issues surrounding the hospitality industry and guide lines provided by the PMO for issues such as pre-authorisations, tabs, gratuity and top-ups.

Ramesh Juneja presented 1st Currency Choice (DCC provider) and how they work with 3C to provide a fully integrated DCC solution for the hospitality industry from front desk to restaurants. DCC provides a compelling business case for POS companies as the merchant/location receives a commission from the DCC provider for each foreign card that is processed at the establishment in the same currency as the customers home country. Over a number of months the merchant could earn thousands in revenue, which will go against the cost of buying a new POS system.

To round up the days events Michael Balzer, CEO, 3C International, announced the winners of this year’s awards. Nick Skudder from NFS Hospitality picked up the Best Sales Award and Robert Philimore from Acorn Ltd received the Loyalty Award.
