Wireless broadband Internet access at
Oslo Airport - 09/12/2002
Travellers at and visitors to Oslo Airport
can now "surf" the Net by wireless connection
at broadband speed. From a laptop PC with
a wireless data network card installed,
users can easily gain user-friendly access
by opening an Internet browser to purchase
short-term Internet access by credit card.
The wireless broadband network has been
available to companies at the airport this
year, but will now be opened for general
use in all public areas in the Terminal
and at the Radisson SAS Conference Centre
East.

3CWiFi, an on line credit card solution
for WiFi operators - 14/10/2002
In co-operation with Oslo International
Airport (OSL), Nomadix and Primesphere,
3C Communications has rolled out 3CWiFi,
a new credit card solution which allows
passengers equipped with WiFi enabled notebooks
and PDA's to access the Internet in a simple
and secure way. OSL's WiFi network was accessible
for free to passengers since February 2002.
In August, Morten Eldevik, CEO of OSL's
Data and Telecommunications Centre, contracted
3C to design and implement a Web credit
card solution that could be interfaced to
OSL's Nomadix access controller. Less than
3 months later, 3CWiFi was launched. This
payment solution, which is a front end to
3CWeb2Pay, 3C's Web payment engine, allows
passengers to access Internet in three simple
steps:
(1) the passenger's notebook or PDA technical
configuration and its connection to the
airport's Wi-Fi network is made automatically;
(2) the passenger selects the duration of
connection and captures his/her credit card
details before purchasing access;
(3) following an online authorization of
the credit card, 3CWiFi automatically generates
an onscreen receipt of the purchase.
The passenger is then free to surf the Internet.
"By relying on our 16 years of experience
in handling credit card transactions, we
have been able to adapt 3CWeb2Pay, our Internet-based
credit card gateway, to the needs of Oslo
Airport's WiFi network. This credit card
solution is the first step in offering the
market a global payment solution that can
easily generate revenue for WiFi operators,"
said Alex Zivoder, 3C Communications managing
director. "Our ultimate goal is to leverage
our wide European presence in airports and
hotels to provide a WiFi payment gateway
that allows roaming between sites, therefore
dramatically increasing the scope of revenue
generation to WiFi operators."
